Learn about botanical drawing by creating an ink and wash drawing of a Primrose in a beautifully patterned cache pot with step-by-step instruction. I’ll have the Primrose drawing started for you on 140# Arches paper to add more pencil and ink lines, watercolor washes and watercolor pencil lines. Learn great drawing tips from rough sketch, to drawing a symmetrical pot, to finished drawing, to how to transfer on details. Even draw your own cache pot design if you choose. All levels of drawing & painting experience are welcome!

In this fun workshop, see how beautifully watercolor pencils team up with watercolor to more realistically paint bright yellow daffodils in glowing sunlight. With step-by-step instruction learn wet-into-wet watercolor techniques for 300# Arches watercolor paper, to create a soft-focus watercolor background with the suggestion of leaves, and then lift out daffodil buds. Eliminate gray pencil lines showing through yellow washes with my invention of the yellow transfer vellum plus great tips on watercolor pencils and masking fluid. All levels of painting experience are welcome!

Come paint a rose with Patricia Schmidt! With step-by-step instruction, paint a luscious, soft-focus watercolor background with wet-into-wet techniques on 300# Arches cold press paper. Learn her special transfer technique for disappearing pink guidelines on the practice rose painting. For luminous rose leaves, learn great tips on masking the tiny leaf veins, plus glazing layers for glowing color and shadows. WATER CONTROL TECHNIQUES for WATERCOLOR

Tuition: $165 (includes pre-printer exercise paper, contact paper, Mr. Clean Magic Sponge)
In this watercolor workshop, participants will learn how to control water and pigment to achieve better results in their paintings. The workshop covers essential techniques such as painting a flat watercolor wash and painting the background around a shape protected with masking fluid. It also includes practice exercises on lifting techniques to lighten watercolor or rescue a shape in a painted area. Additional tips will be provided on using masking fluid effectively and caring for watercolor brushes, helping artists of all levels improve their watercolor skills.

Patricia Schmidt
has been painting with watercolor for over thirty years and is known for her hyper-realistic paintings alive with color and drenched with light.
She is a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society and the Watercolor Society of Oregon; a charter member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, a member of the Oregon Chapter of the Colored Pencil Society, the Oregon Society of Artists and SPLASH, a professional artist group. Her paintings are included in the watercolor books “Splash Retrospective: 20 years of Contemporary Watercolor Excellence“ (2013), “Splash 14: Light and Color” (2013), “Splash 12: Celebrating Artistic Vision” (2011) and the Winter 2005 “Watercolor“ magazine. Patricia has taught watercolor, drawing and colored pencil classes as adjunct faculty for several colleges as well as classes at Sitka Center for Art and Ecology on the Oregon Coast.
She has illustrated a children’s book “A Dolphin Named Destiny” (2024) with watercolored pen & ink drawings. She has also illustrated greeting cards for six greeting card companies and pen & ink designs for a rubber stamp company.
